Our Golden Lion-winning films

Sonia Boyce
British Pavilion 2024, Venice Biennale of Art

In 2024, we were commissioned by the British Council to devise and create the marketing and communications content for Sonia Boyce’s British Pavilion show, Feeling Her Way. This included wall texts, press packs and a suite of digital content.

Our digital campaign revolved around film content for Instagram and YouTube, including a mini documentary film and a Pavilion fly-through, all complemented with graphic elements and an original soundtrack. The British Pavilion won the Golden Lion, the highest prize awarded at the Venice Biennale, bestowed on all members of the team, from the artist and curator through to technical and communications staff.

“We wanted to send a huge and heartfelt thanks to you all for your incredible hard work, creativity and determination on Venice over the last few months. We are so excited to launch today with the brilliant content and campaign we have collaborated on, and to say we couldn’t have done it without you might be the understatement of the year!

“You’ve all been so brilliant and gone way above and beyond to help us through this challenging period and test out an outsourcing model for the campaign – we’ve learnt a huge amount from the experience of working with you on it, which will be valuable for years to come.

“Thank you so much for your patience and good humour along the way, we have so enjoyed working with you on it.”

– Jane Fletcher, head of marketing, arts, British Council

Our work at the Venice Biennale

La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biennale) was founded in 1895 and is now one of the most significant cultural events in the world. Its annually alternating contemporary art and architecture events consist of national pavilion exhibitions – each with its own curator and project; an international art exhibition and collateral events around the city. In recent years, the Venice Biennale of Art has attracted up to 800,000 visitors per year.

For the past 15 years, Cultureshock has created films documenting the Venice Biennales of art and architecture for clients such as Sotheby’s, the British Council and Hyundai Artlab. These films have covered artist interviews, exhibition walk-throughs, filmed performances and short-form social content.
