Translating culture globally
Launched in Doha for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, this book is part memoir and part personal guide to culture in Qatar. It reveals the country’s far-reaching plans to establish and support a cultural infrastructure that includes some of the world’s most magnificently built museums and meticulously curated collections. Published in English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin Chinese.

“I strongly believe that culture is the most powerful means of bringing people together, sparking the kind of dialogue that enables us to learn, grow and cooperate, and inspiring ideas that reverberate across the creative industries.”
– Her Excellency Sheikha al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, chairperson, Qatar Museums
Our work with Qatar Museums
Led by its chairperson, Her Excellency Sheikha al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museums is making Qatar a vibrant centre for the arts, culture and education in the Middle East and beyond.
Qatar Museums oversees a growing roster of institutions including the National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. It also nurtures and supports the Qatari cultural infrastructure through projects including the Fire Station: Artist in Residence programme, M7 creative hub for innovation, fashion and design, and Liwan Design Studios and Labs.
As part of Cultureshock’s ongoing partnership with Qatar Museums and the office of Sheikha al-Mayassa, since 2025 we have developed books, apps, websites, podcasts and cultural guides to showcase the extraordinary museums, exhibitions and talent that have made Doha a new capital of the international art world.
